Bobby Jindal Trades Education For Votes
Louisiana Governor Piyush “Bobby” Jindal recently signed legislation drafted in part by the Discovery Institute which will allow local school boards to approve their own supplemental materials for the teaching of evolution, global warming, and cloning.
Nice job selling the future of Louisiana for a few votes. Shouldn’t a responsible governor be concerned with reversing Lousiana’s pathetic grade 8 science proficiency levels? Somehow I don’t think this “supplemental” (read: creationist) material is really going to help achieve that goal.
Of course, proponents of the legislation point to a clause stating that the law “shall not be construed to promote any religious doctrine [. . . ] or promote discrimination for or against religion or nonreligion.” So I guess I’m wrong about that creationist part. I’ll send a memo to the Greeks, letting them know that the next time they use that Trojan horse trick, they should put a sign on the side saying “there are no Greeks hiding in here” so the Trojans will know it’s okay.
